Dear Parishioners,
The Gospel of this Sunday preceding Lent continues to encourage us to convert through the discourse of the Beatitudes. The evangelist Luke tells us: “Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye and not the log in your own eye? How dare you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you do not notice the log in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will be able to see and remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Jesus Christ calls his listeners to conversion just as he calls us to conversion. Judging others always means the inability to understand and see our own erroneous behavior. The thermometer that measures who we are is marked by how we judge others. When we see someone being greedy, it is because we are greedy. When we judge someone for being dishonest, it means that we are also dishonest.
The Lord also speaks to his listeners and tells them: “A good man says good things, because good is in his heart, and an evil man says evil things, because evil is in his heart, for the mouth speaks out of what the heart is full of.” But how can we fill our hearts with good things? Those who have received the mercy and love of God are those who fill their hearts with good and therefore can say good things.
During the time of Lent, we will begin the mission of announcing the Good News every Monday and Thursday at 8pm. Let us ask the Lord for the grace to be able to come, listen and receive this announcement so that we can speak of the beautiful things that God is doing in our lives.

El Evangelio de este domingo que precede a la Cuaresma, nos continúa impulsando en la conversión a través del discurso de las Bienaventuranzas. El evangelista Lucas nos dice: “¿Por qué ves la paja en el ojo de tu hermano y no la viga que llevas en el tuyo? ¿Cómo te atreves a decirle a tu hermano: ‘Déjame quitarte la paja que llevas en el ojo’, si no adviertes la viga que llevas en el tuyo? ¡Hipócrita! Saca primero la viga que llevas en tu ojo y entonces podrás ver, para sacar la paja del ojo de tu hermano.”
Jesucristo llama a la conversión a sus oyentes, así como nos llama a la conversión a nosotros. El juicio hacia los demás siempre significa la incapacidad de entender y ver nuestros comportamientos erróneos. El termómetro que mide quienes somos nosotros está marcado por cómo juzgamos a los demás. Cuando vemos a alguien avaricioso es porque nosotros somos avariciosos. Cuando juzgamos a alguien por ser deshonesto significa que nosotros somos deshonestos.
También el Señor habla a sus oyentes y les dice: “El hombre bueno dice cosas buenas, porque el bien está en su corazón, y el hombre malo dice cosas malas, porque el mal está en su corazón, pues la boca habla de lo que está lleno el corazón.” ¿Pero cómo podemos llenarnos el corazón de cosas buenas? Aquellos que han recibido la misericordia y el amor de Dios son los que llenan sus corazones de bien y por lo tanto pueden decir cosas buenas.
Durante el tiempo de Cuaresma comenzaremos la misión de anunciar la Buena Noticia todos los Lunes y los Jueves a las 8pm. Pidamos al Señor la gracia de poder ir a recibir este anuncio para que así podamos hablar de las cosas tan bonitas que Dios está haciendo en nuestras vidas y llenar nuestros corazones de la gracia del amor de Jesucristo.

On the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, Tuesday, February 11th, we celebrated World Day of the Sick. Parishioners received a special “blessing of the sick. Let us continue to join in prayer for our ill and vulnerable brothers and sisters in Christ.
El Martes, 11 de Febrero, día de la festividad de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, celebramos la Jornada Mundial del Enfermo. Los feligreses recibieron una especial “bendición de los enfermos”. Sigamos uniéndonos en oración por nuestros hermanos y hermanas enfermos y vulnerables en Cristo.
There will be a FUNDRAISING DINNER with our priests, to help pay the cost of the temperature thermostat controls of the church. The dinner will take place on Tuesday, March 4th, with social at 6:00pm and the dinner at 6:30pm. Please stop by the parish office to buy the tickets. We will also be selling tickets after Mass in the back of the church.
Habrá UNA CENA CON NUESTROS SACERDOTES para recaudar fondos para ayudar a pagar el costo del proyecto de los controles del termostato de temperatura de la Iglesia. We have a goal of praying 3,500 rosaries for the unborn, their mothers and women who have had an abortion. Beginning March 5th, if each person can pray a rosary daily for these intentions we can achieve this goal. Boxes will be provided in the church and adoration chapel where you can report the number of rosaries you have prayed. We will log them in and keep you posted as to progress toward our goal.
Tenemos nua meta de rezar 3,500 rosarios por los no nacidos, sus madres y las mujeres que han tenido un aborto. A partir del 5 de marzo, si cada persona puede rezar un rosario diario por estas intenciones, podremos lograr esta meta. Se proporcionarán cajas en la iglesia y en la capilla de adoración donde podrá informar el número de rosarios que ha rezado. Los registraremos y le mantendremos informado sobre el progreso hacia nuestra meta.

ST AUGUSTINE FOOD PANTRY In order to keep the pantry up and running we will have a FOOD DRIVE on the FIRST SUNDAY of EVERY MONTH. The pantry is in dire need of: peanut butter, pasta, cereal, canned fruit and vegetables, canned meats and soups. Monetary donations are also very much needed. Please bring your donations before mass or drop off in the parish office.

The KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS breakfast will be on Sunday, March 9th, in the Parish Life Center after the 8:00am and 10:00am masses. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, juice and coffee will be served. There is NO charge, donations are being accepted. All donations will be given to our FOOD PANTRY. Everyone is welcome.
